Neil Wilson Becomes Candidate for Ohio 11th District Court of Appeals

Leroy, Ohio (PRWEB) February 25, 2010 -- Neil Wilson has become a candidate for a seat on Ohio’s Eleventh District Court of Appeals. Wilson filed petitions with the Lake County Board of Elections seeking the Democratic nomination in that race.

Established by Ohio’s Constitution, the Court of Appeals is an intermediate level appellate court which hears appeals from common pleas, municipal and county courts. Each case is heard and decided by a three-judge panel. Judges are elected by geographic districts – the Eleventh District covers Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga, Portage, and Trumbull Counties.

“I decided to run because the people of this district deserve an appeals judge who has a clear understanding of their values and interests, plus the experience to effectively support those values and interests from the bench,” said Wilson.

Wilson is a former Painesville Municipal Court Judge. He has also served as Prosecutor and Assistant Law Director for the City of Mentor, Solicitor for Perry Village, Counsel for Painesville Township Schools, General Counsel for the Ashtabula Metropolitan Housing Authority, Assistant Ashtabula County Prosecutor, and Special Prosecutor in Lake County.

As a Commissioned Officer in the United States Navy, Wilson served two tours of duty in Vietnam. The Leroy Township resident earned his law degree from Case Western Reserve University following his undergraduate work at Kent State. He has also completed advanced coursework at the National Judicial College, Ohio Judicial College, and the National College of District Attorneys.

Wilson says he decided to become a candidate after being encouraged by supporters throughout the Eleventh District. “A good Court of Appeals judge has to have the right balance of integrity, judgment, and experience,” he noted. “My core campaign strategy is going to be a very straightforward appeal to voters based on those qualities.”
